Fly Fishing Instruction
I started flyfishing in 1989 after my daughter was born. The state of Texas stocks local lakes with Rainbow trout every winter and I love fishing for trout. On my first fathers day I got a fly tying kit from Lynn and baby Jessica. It has snowballed since then into quite a collection.
I have been teaching martial arts for over 20 years, mostly with children. It has given me a unique perspective in casting, stalking, finding and catching fish. I can teach the body dynamics necessary to cast a big fly into a 15 mile an hour wind. Or moving stealthy enough to get close to that spooky trout.
I have a 3 part instructional series that starts with basic casting, presenting the fly, manipulating the fly, control of the line, stripping and setting the hook. We also look at equipment choices and the types of fishing you will be doing.
Part 1 we will fish in an open area with few obstacles so you can concentrate on technique. You might even catch a fish but that is a bonus not the goal.
Part 2 we will go over additional casting methods, side arm, roll cast, tuck casts and dropping casts. Then we will work on casting around trees, logs and other fish holding structure.
Part 3 we will go saltwater fishing. Starting in a boat and going wade fishing you will learn the fish, habitat and behavior of different saltwater fish. We will work on different casts using bigger rods and flies. Learn how to read the water and currents and many other differences saltwater has to offer. Again catching fish is a bonus and not the main concern. Learning, having fun, being able to catch fish on your own is what it is all about.
If you are already experienced we can work on what ever you want to learn about.
The best part for me is getting to know new people and learning from them.
