Scientific Anglers Mastery Series Fly line is the best thing to happen to fly fishing since the double taper. The Mastery Series now offer so many choices it is hard to decide which one to buy. The best thing is you don't have to be an expert to find the right line for what you are fishing for. I have only used a few lines but can tell you they are all well made and hold up well. I still use the weight forward bass line on my 6 wt. I got 8 years ago. The new lines require very minimal maintenance due to a new material. It is a dry slick coating called Advanced Shooting Technology or AST. Other line makers have a coating on the surface of the line that eventually wears off. AST is mixed in with PVC and micro bubbles and goes to the core. It can not wear off or wash off like line dressing. You do have to wipe it off if it gets dirty but it takes a lot of algae to get it dirty.
I use the Wt. Fwd floating on my 3,5,6,7,8,9,and 12 wt fly rods. From All star to Loomis and Orvis each rod has increased range and accuracy with SA lines.
2 years ago I got the clear salt water sinking line. It really gets the line down when the currents are strong or the fish are deep. With different sink rates you can change spools and reach other species quickly and easily. The clear line wont spook fish so your chances of hookups increases.
I have not tried it yet but SA has a new Floro-Carbon. If it is better than the old stuff I will be buying several different pound test spools. I have found with SA original Floro-Carbon I have out fished others 5 to 1 in fresh and saltwater by just using it instead of nylon leaders and tippets.
My second reel was a SA system 1 series 456 trout reel. I have used it for 16 years and still do today. I really want a system 2 LA reel. It is on my list for Christmas.
There is so much information on their products, I include a link to the web site.
