WET A FLY.COM
www.wetafly.com is an interesting name for a water proof glue used to construct a fly. This is the glue that the dentist uses to coat your teeth. It is a very thick glue that stays where you put it and hardens under an ultra violet light. You can order the light with the glue. It is a high quality flash light that is small enough to store with my hackle.
Jim and I tried it for building a bass fly (Craw fish Pattern). After wrapping the hook shank and putting on the dumb bell weight I used the clear glue and the light to harden. Many times the super glue I had been using breaks loose and the weight turns on the hook shank. The wet a fly glue held fast, even when I hit a tree with the fly later when casting. I used cactus chenille as a body I then palmered a nice neck feather to simulate legs on the mud bug. Next I put 6 or 8 pieces on crystal flash and 2 short neck feathers for the antenna and claws. I used the thick wet a fly where I wanted the eyes and stuck 2 glow eyes in the glue. A quick flash of the light and it was ready to fish.
I made a few casts when we got to the lake then saw a 3 pound bass sitting under a tree. I dropped the fly right on the fish and he hit it hard. After a short fight he broke my leader. I had forgot to change my 2 pound trout leader to a bass leader. Opps....
What I really like about the wet a fly glue is it has no odor. I don't like epoxy and super glue because of the smell. Also before the light hits it, it is easy to clean up. I dropped a drop of super glue on my pants and ruined them. With wet a fly it is thicker and stays in place. It also takes a second to clean up a drop if needed.
Jim told me that wet a fly has also started selling a glow in the dark glue to color a fly with. I want to try it out as we do some night fishing in the gulf and bass fishing in deep water.
